As I get older I seem to love skateboarding more. Maybe it’s due to the availability of so much online and social media or maybe it’s less of the tempting distractions my younger years seemed to offer? Either way it occupies and remains a large part of my thoughts. I love skateboarding. Living in a far flung corner of the United Kingdom, I continued to skate with a couple of my good friends regularly but knew from the early morning visits to our local parks that I wasn’t alone in my age group. Skateboarding was very much alive for many of us over thirties dawn raiders. It was my wife and best friend Ali who came up with the idea. I wasn’t a huge fan of social media but perhaps a page dedicated to like-minded people may help unite some of us guys still living and loving skateboarding. Oldbones Skateboarding was born. My buddy Adam and I had a very small mini ramp in my garage. We’d skate it, shoot pics and post them up on our new FB page. We’d also post a few old magazine ads and shots I’d scan in. Interest was slow but it was there and we needed a push.

Meeting Ozzie through our mutual friend Lucia Griggi was that push we needed. We got on like a house on fire through our like-minded love of skateboarding and many other things . Ozzie had the already successful Blue Tile Obsession blog and we were big fans. He helped our page reach a greater audience and people were stoked on what we were doing. Lee Plumb, a good friend and fellow admin guy on OldBones, had a childhood crew up country (SWSP) and soon we were hooking up and sharing stories. In Cornwall through our new page I was meeting the skaters I’d been seeing and hearing about at the parks for many years. Iva, Stubop, Andy, Phil, Mirko and many more. With myself, Adam and Lee, we soon had a crew and sessions were on.

Mirko already had a large mini ramp in his workshop & before long it was our new place of residence. We’d meet regularly, skating and sharing stories. The page was growing. Fifty likes and more were coming in daily as we documented our adventures. The eight of us, along with other skaters we were meeting all the time sessioned often. We discovered we all had a mutual respect for pool skating. We don’t have them here in the U.K,  but we have many concrete parks & bowls. Soon we were talking about taking down the mini & attempting to build our very own OldBones team bowl. We had a scene.

We built our bowl in the summer of 2013 and it was the best thing we ever did! Eight guys with a mutual love of skateboarding .  The page is strong with over three thousand likes now and we continue to meet and talk to people daily . Ozzie once told me “if you build it they will come.”  True that… These last couple of years have certainly been my best so far in skateboarding. Great crew, great sessions, meeting amazing people, skating pools in the U.S and much more… The universal language of skateboarding.
