Skateboarding is one of those strange things that crosses over gender, language, race and politics. People who wouldn’t normally come together in any regard, do so because they ride skateboards. It is the simple act of rolling. This thing that we do, unites us. Skateboarders will travel long miles in a car and across lonely stretches of highway, just to roll for an afternoon with a few friends. Devotion. Loyalty. It is our own ideology. It is our own manifest destiny. Life wouldn’t be life… without rolling. Rolling with friends makes everything else, tolerable.

Friends from Texas, Brandon and Berry, drove out to skate with Wesley, Lance and Jerry Valdez the other day. Arto’s pool sat in the warm California sun and offered itself up like a prize. The gift was accepted and the crew rolled through the afternoon, content in the knowledge that we as skateboarders hold a secret in our hands. The secret that ends wrath, strife, hate and boredom. Rolling… is that secret. Thank you to William Sharp for the images. Roll and don’t hate - Ozzie
