Mork from Ork
Bucky Lasek doesn’t disappoint. I think he’s hard-wired to operate at a higher level than the rest of humanity. If he’s skating, racing or simply throwing a BBQ, Bucky definitely has what it takes to make an impression. This year, the Bucky Lasekland Boo BQ was complete with a live webcast done by Protec. On arrival, this year was similar to others except there was much more of it. More tents, more drinks, more swag, more cars, more people, more food, more banners… It was like a carnival. There were vans unloading Puma shoes, backpacks, t-shirts, energy drinks, beer, ice cream, beef jerky and just about anything else one might need to show everyone a grand afternoon.

They started things off with tons of free stuff. Puma donated five hundred pairs of shoes and they quickly disappeared into five hundred happy pairs of hands. I saw scantily clad girls. I saw drunken buffoonery. I saw families and laughter. I saw stone cold ripping. I saw it all. The yearly slalom race was quickly upon us and this year, the entire course was altered and changed up in format. It was to be a two man team slalom race. The teams signed up and off they went. Super fast times were put up by Cory Juneau, Zach Miller, Josh Stafford, Aaron Astorga, Austin Poynter and others.

Bucky gave Owen Neider and I a huge pile of twenty dollar bills and the snatch grab for cash quickly ensued. This year people were going off. It seemed that everyone wanted to do something super gnarly and Sergie Ventura got on the microphone to hype up the session. Big tricks were pulled and big payouts were rewarded.
The only bank you don't end up Owen.
Jamming a twenty up Jeff Hedges nose. Sorry bro...

Cookiehead was a huge keg and he couldn't see the coping most of the time he was skating... Insane to witness.

Bucky decided that his bowl wasn’t remotely close to being hard or exciting enough so California Skateparks made him a Bar Of Doom. One look and you knew that this was going to be insanity at another level. It spanned a corner and basically one had to clear the entire swizzle stick in order to land safely. Let the photographs speak for themselves.

In the end, it was a grand old time. Food, fun and friends. Three Wheels Out played a great set of music, cash was dished out for radicalness, prizes were awarded and everyone went home pleased as punch. Dave Duncan took a mean slam early in the day and we wish him a speedy recovery.
